This hands-on workshop will explore Scratch Jr, an app specifically designed to help young children (5-7 years old) learn how to program. We will learn how to use Scratch Jr. in the early childhood classroom and how to integrate it in the curriculum. Participants will leave the workshop with both pedagogical approaches and technical skills. Marina Bers, professor at Tufts University and her assistants will lead the session. Scratch Jr. is a collaboration between the Developmental Technologies research group at the Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Development at Tufts University (led by Marina Umaschi Bers), the Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT Media Lab (led by Mitchel Resnick), and the Playful Invention Company.
